BPMB RECOGNISED WITH ENVIRONMENTAL DEVELOPMENT AWARD FOR SUPPORTING INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS

On 16 May 2023, BPMB was recognised with ADFIAP’s Environmental Development Award for its role in a Green Technological Park (GTP) development project by Nextgreen Pulp & Paper Sdn Bhd. BPMB Group Chief Executive Officer, Roni Abdulwahab received the recognition award at the Awards Night during the 46th ADFIAP Annual Meetings in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The project revolutionizes the pulp and paper industry by producing Bleached Chemical Woodfree Pulp (“Woodfree Pulp”) from Empty Fruit Bunches - wastage from palm oil production. The wood-free pulp in turn can be processed further into wood-free paper using the same technology. In creating the wood-free paper, the process utilises renewable energy and zero waste technology.

At the annual meetings, Roni also shared the Bank’s efforts in advocating for responsible banking, which is essential for creating a more sustainable future. Through the MIND Framework, BPMB aims to drive positive economic, environmental and social impact by financing national development projects and contribute to Malaysia's sustainable development goals.

The Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific or ADFIAP is the largest association of development banks and other financial institutions engaged in the financing of sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
